The goal of CoreHaus is simple yet ambitious- to act as a model for future infill development. To encourage sustainable and livable neighborhoods and cities we must learn to increase density while respecting the existing urban fabric. The development of the future must also dramatically reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of our housing, and CoreHaus sets out to do this using existing, proven, and affordable building technology. CoreHaus aims to be the first speculative Passive House home in the Northwest and one of only a handful in the entire United States. The house of the future is being built today.
The concept behind Passive House is simple. A building is so highly tuned and efficiently designed and built that the furnace can be eliminated, resulting in a building that uses 75-90% less energy than a standard home. The Passive House standards were originally developed in Germany, where over 20,000 examples exist today. This concept is just starting to take hold in the US.
